Traditional Landscape Design

The term traditional landscape has a few different synomyms – Formal & Classical. Traditional landscape design can also include other landscape disciplines such as an English Garden.

Regardless of the name used, traditional landscape depends heavily on order and balance. Symetrical designs, crisp lines and appropriate use of hardscaping (pergolas, pools and other water features) are all elements of a traditional landscape design.

As regards symmetry and crisp lines and how this may seem to be out-of-balance with the orgranic feel of the natural outdoors, a traditional landscape does not have to be sterile and boring. Additional elements can be brought to bear and can help to create a more organic feeling to your landscaping project.
